I recently started working in a federal building, in Chicago, IL. They are not juresdicted by Chicago Code. Chicago requires Conduit runs in underground garages to be HW, Is the code the same in NEC? What article/section? Also is it ok in NEC to run Feeders for other equipment in the same run as emergency lighting circuits?

I'm in Chicago as well. Is this a plan and spec job? If so, your contract documentation will direct you as to which codes you are to use. You are also correct, in that you are working in a federal reservation, and CEC does not apply. The 2002 CEC closeley mirrors 2002 NEC now, but with some more stringent provisions in the aeas of non-metallic wiring systems, emergency systems, hospital work, plenum area wiring, and high rise code.

Walking into the control tower at O'Hare, I was agahst to see plastic exit signs and battery lights. Walk 10 feet into the terminal and there was our customery metal and glass units.

It was rumoured that when the Social Security Building was built some time ago, across the street from the union hall, city inspectors had tried to inspect the building, and were going to "red tag" the boilers. They were supposedly, cordially asked to leave, [or be arrested].

Re: HW in underground garage

Thanks Flightline for your response, I am amazed at the lack of quality control in our Federal Buildings. There are no specs on this particular job. I was trying to show some varifiable proof that what another (so called) electrical contractor was doing in the underground parking garage was not only against CEC but any Nationaly recognized code anywhere.
I don't believe that some of the electrical contractors that work in our Federal buildings do not need to be licenced with the City much less Union. All the need is the bonding.
I don't want to stir up any trouble, but I also have integrity for the trade and do not wish to see shabby work or even unsafe work anywhere.
Again thanks, and any other help on this subject would be more than welcome.
