Is it OK to bond the motor to the ground bar inside the panelboard with a solid copper wire instead of or in addition to, bonding the motor to the metal piping as per 680.74?????

Re: Hydromassage Bathtub HELP

The equipment grounding conductor that will be installed with the branch circuit conductors will bond the motor. Unless there are metal parts that are present such as plumbing or skirting around the tub this is all required.

Should there be other metal that would require bonding then run a #8 to these and bond to the motor.

Don't overlook 110-3(b)

Many of the hydrotub installation instructions in this area call for a #8 bond to the metallic water system or service panel.

I disagree. 680.74 requires the bond to go to a metal piping system, which would be the copper piping if the whole house is done in copper. Bonding to the panel does nothing, as discussed in the FPN to 680.26.

Don't forget to look at 680.73 Accessibility to hydromassage bathtub electrical equipment.

Builders murder this requierment. I have failed many final inspections because of insufficient access panels. The electricians are quick to blame the builders. It is a NEC violation, that makes it the electricians responsability.

The #8 solid needs only to bond metal parts at the tub. There is no requirement to bond it to the panel
