In which code cycle did 680.71, that requires an individual branch circuit for a hydromassage bathtub, become part of the NEC? Someone has a house built in 1988 and the tub is not on an individual branch circuit and they are trying to get the wiring grandfathered in.

Yes'r. Home Inspector wants this house brought up to code. Too bad the city the house is in is only on the 2002 NEC and the motor does not pull more than 10 amps.

An HI can't demand anything. The report is nothing more than an opinion. I'd say there's a realtor involved as well, along with a buyer and a seller. I'd bet the buyer is the one making the demand as part of an offer on the house.

How does a home inspector gain the authority to demand such things?
