Would somebody please make clear to me exactly what is ment by "Bonding Together" in 680-74?? We are running into a lot of this in the Phoenix area, most new homes have non-metalic plumbing, we use all plastic boxes, there for there is nothing to bond together as far as we are concerned. Are we wrong? The motor is grounded through the ground wire in the romex.

Re: Hydromassage Tub

Separate in your mind the idea of bonding (grounding) for the purposes of clearing fault currents and the bonding for the purposes of establishing an equipotential contact area. Like pools, the items listed in this section simply need to be connected together so that they are all at the same potential. This bonding performs no other function.

Re: Hydromassage Tub

I agree! We have city inspectors telling us that we need to pull a # 8 solid back to the panel and I'm telling them that is not what this section is saying.

Re: Hydromassage Tub

realboss I inspect hydromassage bathtubs almost every day. The purpose of the #8 solid bond is to keep all metal part at the same potential, and need not be taken back to the panel. I will tell you though that my pet peeve is the access to electrical equipment. I turn down many installations because of inadequate access.

Re: Hydromassage Tub

Take a look at the FPN that follows .26.

"680.26 Bonding.
(A) Performance. The bonding required by this section shall be installed to eliminate voltage gradients in the pool area as prescribed.

FPN: This section does not require that the 8 AWG or larger solid copper bonding conductor be extended or attached to any remote panelboard, service equipment, or any electrode.

This requirement is for pools and hottubs/spas
