I-Beam mounted receptacle

Just curious how others have done this…

I have been asked to wire an aircraft hangar with basic receptacles and LED lights. What is the “best” method of attaching a 4x4 metal box directly to an i-beam? I’m looking at beam clamps to the beam with small shallow unistrut pieces to mount the box.

What have others used that looks good and holds over time? I can’t mount straight to the beam - engineer specifies no mounting holes in the beams. No reason to re-invent to wheel.

If money is not a real issue, I like the B-Line column support clamps as that will let me tuck the box behind the beam flanges if the beam is deep enough. The B-613A works with the shallow strut.
Have always wanted to try a magnetic mount, but never have

If you buy the correct self tapping screws. You can buy them with a drill tip with 24-28 threads /"inch. They claim you cand drive them in 1/2" steel.

They work great. I don't think I ever used them in 1/2" but I have done 1/4" and probably 3/8" plenty of time and they work great. ITW Build dex is one brand. Have to buy the fine thread screws

WHOOPs: just re read your post about no holes in the beams so that is out.

... engineer specifies no mounting holes in the beams. ...
That seems unreasonably cautious. Have you asked about an exception, for a limited mounting pattern for #10 bolts & nuts?

Powder-activated fasteners might also be an option -- they completely fill the hole they make with a piece of hard steel and almost a metallurgical bond, as tight as hot riveting.

I suppose you could mount the box to strut, but it isn’t necessary. You would probably need something like this to support the conduit.

I’ve never seen those conduit supports - thanks!
