:-? :-? we have a bid to do for a GAMESTOP store in the general electrical notes it reads as fallows; the curcuits to power the these recepticals shall not be used for any other purpose. curcuits shall not share neutral or ground with other equipment. seperate power, neutral and insulated ground wires, minimum size wire #12 awg shall be run to the curcuit breaker panel board where ground wire shall be tied to the graoud termnial isolated from neutral. use HUBBLE #IG 5362. does this mean that i need to run a seperate curcuit to each (33) curcuits ? I visited two other stores and found only four or five curcuits for there recepticals and nothing special about the recpticals except the 20 amp configuration. the plans also tell me to use the 2007 codes, are we not still useing the 2005 codes till after 2008 ? one more thing the same note tell me to run (4) CAT5 to the register area and (1) CAT5 to to office. shoul i run 4 single pairs to the register area or (1) 4 or more pair ?. P.S. What is P.O.S. ?

"POS" means "Point of Sale." It is a fancy word for the cash register.

I read this as saying that if a circuit powers one item of their equipment, then that same circuit cannot also power lights or heaters or general receptacles. It does not say "one circuit equals one receptacle, therefore 33 total circuits."

The person asking for 2007 code does not know what he or she is saying. Just do the job to the code version that is in effect in your area.

I do not know anything about the CAT5 stuff.

It is very typical for retail stores to require dedicated neutrals, grounds, and circuits to each POS. Two circuits per POS if there is a motorized belt.

IWIRE; i understand the p.o.s. ares for the computerized registers and card readers but it is a small store ( no belts) there are other recepticals throughuot the store. just wanted to varifie what i read was corect.

Mr. Eagle, unless you're doing the designing, the plans should specify which circuit each receptacle should be on.

The CAT-5 cabling requires four separate 4-pair cables for the POS terminals, just as in any computer networking.

Added: Certainly, there's a panel schedule with the circuits already assigned, which should be helpful.

THAT ALONE doesn't say dedicated circuits for EACH outlet. It just says that you can't use the circuit for anything other than THESE recepticals.

You would think.
