I - joists drilling

On this job, the Wood I - joists have knock out holes every 2 feet. But in the past I have read restrictions on some not allowing using these knock outs except certain distance from walls. You’re experience? Thank you
 
You need to consult the data from the manufacturer for allowable hole sizing and placement. Attached is data for Weyerhaeuser that I happen to have to give you an idea.

Those “knockouts “ don’t knock out easily or cleanly. They splinter and look like a hack job. At least the ones I’ve seen.
I’ve also never see the installer line them up - you would end up with a zig-zag in your cables.

Agree on all counts. A hole saw works better than an auger, too..
