Start with Watts (as in, for example, a 100 watt bulb) times the duration of its being turned on (for example, 24 hours a day times 30 days in a month). That gives you the energy used during the month, in units of watt-hours. If needed, divide by 1000, to get the same amount of energy in units of kilo-watt-hours. Multiply that times the price per watt-hour (or per kilo-watt-hour, as appropriate), and you have cost per month.
