My wife and I are currently on vacation in a nice hotel. I noticed all the receptacles are installed "upside down"--I do realize the NEC does not prescribe a right side up to a receptacle.

But it got me to thinking.

Who do you think spec'd the receptical this way? Architect, engineer, safety person or their insurance company?

Fire safety?

If it isn’t specified on the drawing the Electrical Contractor can install them either side up! Around here most of the time ground is up in commercial and down in residential…….as you said not a code requirement but should be consistent through out.
