"I now have more respect for what you do" I heard that on a job site this week as a plumber began to tell me how he got electrocuted and just spent a week in the hospital.

The short story is he and his wife (she's co-owner) were trouble shooting a well pump that didn't have power and as she held down the pressure switch he was out in the field testing the lines at the well head. He got nailed big time by 240v.

Said he felt fine when he woke up (first clue something wrong) except for the burn marks on his hand and elbow (second clue). A couple hours later while they were out to diner his body went numb from the waist up (third and final) and that's when he decided it was time to go to the hospital. (ding ding a winner)

He did ask for one of my cards for future reference.

Not to diminish the seriousness of the incident, electrocution means death by electricity. He was shocked and burned.

Hopefully he will make a full recovery!

That's not good at all! Let's hope he's around long enough to use the card you gave him.

I was doing some additional wiring on a modular home (the owners put the house on stilts and wanted carport lighting and wired storage area) and the siding guy was taking down and re-installing outside lights as he went. I made mention to him about checking voltage and circuit for him if he wanted and he said, "Nah. I'm not scared of electricity." I told him I was and thought to myself, "that's your problem."

I am not scared of electricity...we should respect it ~ failure to do so can result in some lessons on respect...leading to a fear of it.

The siding guy....he'll learn soon enough...unfortunately.

These guys appear to have neither fear nor respect for electricty ...I'm sure that opinion has changed:

Ya know, I started to type respect instead of fear, because that is what I meant. ;) I was afraid at first. I wouldn't go near a live panel, but a live switchbox didn't bother me. Now how uninformed is that. I treat electricity like I do the ocean. I'm not afraid of it, but I sure do respect it.

Riddle me this:
Will a CB open before or after you're dead?

A well "grounded" EC won't have to worry about it.

You know, I wanted that one to work, but... Maybe next time.

In 'olman's defense, I don't think he improved on the existing structure, but rather demolished and built anew.

Therefore, the Ufer had better be in use at inspection.
