I see you are from PA. What sort of work do you do that you need a VA ticket? Just something you always wanted, or you get into VA from time to time?

I passed the VA Exam in '96 stayed employed by another contrator till 2001. The advice given above is the best thing you will do for yourself. You have proven your technical skills but business is something completely different.
The next step for you if you are going independant is getting Minimum a class B contrators license.

That not the way I read the VA-by laws, did I miss something ?
On paper they are a Master ... theirs or our personal liberty persuites are all our own !

To be an electrical contractor you must have a class B Contractors License. Under that License you will have to have at least 1 Master Electrician.
Unless things have changed In VA since 2001 that's the Way I believe it to be.


I will go look at the VA DPOR web site to make sure.

You can get a Class C Contractor License but that will only allow you to do up to $7500 per job/contract not enough to do a medium sized house.

The company I work for does industrial paint finishing systems throughout North America and has done several jobs in VA with a few more in the works. So I guess I will be visiting VA again soon.

you would be well served to forego the class B and just get a class A license in VA (if you want to do any sizeable work).
