It's pretty much modeled after the new NECplus email subscription that is now being distributed by the NFPA. I am afraid this is leading the the end of the IAEI magazine...

You are probably right. The NFPA quit doing the NEC Digest and started doing the NECplus email subscription.

Bryan, I hope you are wrong. The reason you may be is that a lot of inspectors do not have the use of computers and e-mail. However, you can take the IAEI News with you to wait on someone to show up, at lunch, in the can (that is where I do most of my reading), etc.

I always liked the NEC Digest, I now subscribe to the NEC Plus. I consider it to be better than the IAEI News. Next year I may drop my subscription to the IAEI. The IAEI news has a lot of fluff, full page pictures that add nothing to the magazine.
But I am like Charlie and like to have a hard copy to read on breaks, the ferry and at lunch.
I know the IAEI is losing members. They need new, younger electricians.
I'll look at the weekly email.

Tom, don't forget that the IAEI does so much more than just put out a magazine. They have as much influence on every Code Panel as any manufacturer or other representative. They also put a lot of work into education and educational materials. A great deal of my Code knowledge has come from the IAEI meetings and the IAEI News. Instead of dropping out, we need to do what we can to support the organization.

In my opinion, one of the greatest tasks they have is keeping the playing field level. By that statement I mean there are a lot of hacks that would (many do) work from the trunk of the car to undercut the electrician who is doing the work correctly and with the proper materials. These hacks use substandard materials and just make things work. The electrical inspector can make sure that the work is done correctly and with the proper materials. This will force most of the hacks out of work and, in some cases, in jail.

The IAEI belongs to the electrical inspectors. Support your local inspectors, it is good for your business and the support of your family. :)

(Please don't let this digress into, "I know this inspector . . ." or "The inspectors in this area don't know . . .")
