Has anyone taken the ICC residential electrical inspector exam in Texas? Any study guides recommended; anything in particular to concentrate on?

I took the ICC Residential Inspector exam in Idaho. I assume it's pretty much the same test. There is an online study course you can take through ICC Campus, but to be honest, the free code quiz offered at Mike Holt's web site was the best study guide I used. The residential exam was pretty basic and easy to pass if you know your code book. The Commercial Inspector exam was a little tougher because it involved some blueprint reading and several calculations. Good Luck

ICC offers online practice exams and online training for all their inspector/plan examiner exams. The residential exam is based on the International Residential Code, not the NEC so you must become familiar with that reference.

Go here for an outline and sample questions:

I have ICC residential electric, commercial electric, electric plans, and both CBO exams. I am currently working on the Fire Exams.

Thank you

Thank you

Hello Jane & Bryan,

Thank you for the information. I took and passed (the first time) the master electrician exam in Texas early last year. I printed the content outline for the exam from the ICC website and the areas I'm concentrating on: Project Administration, Public Information & Legal and Class 2 circuits. The rest of the topics I feel confident about and been studying books from various authors.
