Hi Guys.

Quick question (not sure if this is the right forum, but well see) Ive been licensed for 22 years here but we went to pull a permit in a township that is requiring us to take an icc certification test #701 apparently its a national master electrician test anyone here ever here of it? And know were to get some info on it.

Thanks

Thanks

I already did ask the township it's just weve never had anything like this in Pa before. Apparently it only effects 3 townships in the entire state. Oh well time for another test.
Thanks again.

Since you're from PA, you know every little town, villiage, boro and township handles licensing differently. There are lots and lots of "off the shelf" tests they could pick from for the licensing test, and that's aparently the one they resolved on. Some even draft their own tests. Some of those are killers. Word on the street is that the ICC tests aren't so bad. I'm not sure if I've ever taken that particular one or not.

Here's what you're up against with that test:

701 - STANDARD MASTER ELECTRICIAN
(One Part - Open Book - 100 Questions - 5-Hour Time Limit)
Major Content Area No. Of Questions Percent Of Exam
Service Transformers & Equipment 19 19 %
Wiring Methods & Installation 16 16 %
Cabinets, Panelboards, 4 4 %
Switchboards, Boxes, & Conduit Bodies Conductors 14 14 %
Control Devices 5 5 %
Motors & Generators 10 10 %
Utilization Equipment & Devices 7 7 %
Special Occupancies & Uses 10 10 %
Miscellaneous 5 5 %
Plan Reading & Analysis 10 10 %

I almost went to do a job in a small town North of New Orleans after Katrina. The AHJ said that my Oklahoma Contractor license would not reciprocate with Louisiana, but he would allow me to contract there, if I passed the ICC 701.

Decided not to go, as work here was busy enough.

But I did wondered about how hard the 701 was?
