Right here.
My wife programmed her number in mine as an ICE number. I'm not sure what they'd do if we were both messed up in the same crash.

I have been asked to put ICE before the number of my insurance agent so he can start the claim process.

In an emergency I hope they can 911 all others can wait.

I think the article states that putting these numbers in isn't the first thing emergency crews are going to look for. If I'm in need of emergency medical assistance, I would hope the EMTs would open their crash bags first, not start rifling through my pockets looking for my cell phone.

I would imagine it's more likely that my cell phone would become a useful tool once I'm stabilized and in the back of the ambulance or strapped down in the 'chopper.

As for Marc, why don't we all PM him with our phone numbers to let him know WE care?!;)

I heard of this a couple years ago, and thought I'd throw it out to everyone here for their benefit.

ICE on your cell phone

I know it works because I happened across an auto accident and was able to contact a victims family.

First I've heard of it, Thanks, I think thats a great Easter Present !

Might I suggest that people add "Bride/Wife or Husband/Groom" as required, just a thought.

Built-in ICE on your cell phone

Built-in ICE on your cell phone

We just got our first cell phones a few months ago. THere are actually 3 red buttons on the inside of the phone, labeled "I" "C" & "E". You can load different people in your contacts who will show up when these buttons are pushed. The people that are linked to one of these ICE buttons are highlighted in red in the contacts list.

I guess I can only have 3 people who care.

That is a great idea.I've never even thought of that before. I just programmed my wife's phone with ICE numbers. She will call me tommorrow and say"Something is wrong with my phone, your contact says ICE on it,It must be broken I need a more expensive phone now!"

Why "ICE" dOES it stand for, or is it an abreviation of something?
Why not just in your contact list spell out "emergency call" then haave the number.

In Case of Emergency

Basically it's been in use for long enough that it would be a step backward to change it now. Enough people know about ICE for it to be of value.

As an aside, I've had an ICE number in my cell phone going back to early 2002. (I dated a girl who's mom was a paramedic: I think she was the one that told me about it)
