This looks like it could have been a lot worse. I wonder what the story is behind it:

Right here.
I wonder how full his beard was before the flash?

He can be thankful that it looks like he was wearing a cotton or mostly cotton shirt.

I smell fish ,... looks like a set up to me. His hands are fine? his hair not burnned? , the mustache not gone? and that looks more like make up , on his face ,than anything that a flash would provide, and he seems a bit too care free after haveing just been through a flash. IMO

I don't know ,..but I don't buy it.

If it's not staged....I wonder if he was wearing gloves and if the pen and badge were placed there later, after the arc flash. It's a great advertisement for eye safety.

Also, his pants don't show any damage, either. Seems like the flying parts of the arcing metal or melting plastic would have been affected by gravity....

Don't know about the pen or badge but he must have been wearing a nose guard ,..not the least little bit of a burn???

Maybe the shirt is made of something with a lower ignition temperature?

I don't know !

I don't know !

What is it half of what your read, less of what one's See's ? Or vica-versa ?

Theres no Burn on Shoulders or fore-arms theres no way that's not part of the Blast!

The make-up on Face is Running up and down on Forehead, and not in any pattern otherwise, theres no Central point out from blast! It's all make up!

Think of it as, if it was that much burn, of cotton, they wouldn't have that half smile ...

JMO, and something to that effect ! FWIW

Editted to Add: wait this isn't the CSI post !

I think he's been racing a dirt bike. That shirt is one of the new designer fashion models that probably cost $125 :D

How'd the sleeves get torn? What part of the blast caused the tearing of the shirt? If he was in a hurry to get his shirt off, seems like he would have torn the buttons off, not the sleeves at the wrists.

The one time I witnessed an Arc Flash happen to someone, he peed his pants. So maybe this guy insisted on changing his pants before the picture was taken!

All kidding aside though, this is a fake. If you save the picture and blow it up with a good viewer program or Photoshop you can see the fake work. Besides, any flash with enough energy to char and burn through a shirt would have ignited his hair. Probably either a Halloween costume at a company party right after Arc Flash training, or he was part of an Arc Flash training seminar as an "example".
