Does anyone own this tester? Or have you used it for cat 6 testing? Had my 1st dealings with one today and I am not impressed. All the cables failed Cat 6 testing. I am hoping the tester is bad. It was a loaner from an Ideal rep.

For something that cost between 4 and 6k$!!!!! I would hope it was not broken. I have not used that tester before but I did have the small ideal network cable testers and was not impressed at all. More than half the time though, I would re-punch or wiggle and the settings would change so I assumed it was my error.

Have you made up a "test" cable, something like 100 feet of CAT6 with a jack on each end? If you know your terminations on those jacks are proper and it still fails then the tester would be suspect.

Although I still dont like the Ideal as much as the Fluke cat 6 tester, the Ideal works fine. Turns out my coworkers were much to careless when pulling the cable throughout the building. Lesson learned.

Is there an advantage of the Ideal over the Fluke? I'm assuming the Ideal may be cheaper? We have the Fluke DTX 1800 and it works very well in the limited cases I have used it.

I dont think so, but my knowledge is limited in this field. The fluke meter I used like a year ago. Just seemed like more well designed meter.
