Hey guys, i am the supervising electrician (and only qualified electrician) for an HVAC + Electrical co in the north suburbs of Chicago. We desperately need another electrician or an apprentice willing to learn. My boss ( the company owner says he has had no luck in finding one. Hence I am trying to find where to pint him. I tried looking at the local community college but the dont offer any classes in electrical work .

I need help in the field...... There is only 1 of me, we all know what happens if I take a day off....

Ideas????

Howard

PS: to the mods, if this should be in a different place, feel free to move it as necessary.

Use Indeed and Zip Recruiter. Anyone looking for a job anymore will go there first, especially if they are under 30. They need to be able to find you on Google. And put on the ad what you are paying or people won't waste their time applying.

With all the old guys retiring without young guys to replace them, the job market favors employees now instead of employers. You are really going to have to compete to get the sharp young guys because they can pretty much name their price in this job market. I know guys in their early 20s making over $30 an hour, with overtime they are pulling down over 100k.

I should clarify on the pay because it varies by locality. Grocery store workers start at $17-$18 per hour here. Fast food starts a little lower, but if you survive the month and they know you are a good worker, you'll probably be close to the same. Landscaping and construction lags behind both for entry level positions, except in companies that realize and are competing for talent. We are a non-union state, I think union wage for a Journeyman here is around $54 per hour.

Try tradesmen international you’ll get some guys, but can you just cycle through so you find a good one and then if it works out just offer my job and if they’re really shitty, don’t pay them

Or join the union and pull from the hall it’s basically tradesmen but union

Finding confident people is near impossible. I had one that I was paying damn good money 20 to 30% more than what they were paying around here he was supposed to have all this experience in low and behold I got bad customer from him and then the seven years I’ve been doing it by myself so just don’t hire him and let them go freely. Watch them like a hawk. They all suck.

Honestly, in my area, all blue collar jobs are advertised and hired through Craigslist.

All my guys I’ve picked up through Craigslist. I’ve gone through a couple, but I have a good crew currently. Just takes some time.

Way better results than Facebook, asking friends, etc. I got way more resumes than I was able to process.
