Have some 277/480v wires in a panel that are being pulled out and landed in a 120/208v panel. For lighting and multi tap ballast fixtures. They are asking for the wires in the panel to be re- identified as 120/308v colors. Can this be done with tape and be code complaint or does new wire have to be pulled? Thanks

As long as ground and neutral is correct, the Code doesn't care about the colors of hots. It's just traditions and local AHJs that might require it. Am I forgetting something?

As such, you can use tape for the new voltages because under the tape it's still a Code-compliant color (not green or white).

This is code and not optional local requirements. 210.5(C)(1). Even the neutral of the two systems needs to be differentiated 200.6(D) when they are together.

Unless there is a local code requiring it.

The rules have changed a bit. There is no rule requiring color coding but you do have to identify the voltage system and phase.

are they wanting to identify the conductors throughout at the fixtures and each junction or pull box?

If they are requiring the conductors to be identified by phase using a phase color scheme.
And they are not eliminating the 480/277 volt system

it may be easier to re- pull the 12 and 10 gage conductors
