If you have Alltel, this question is for you

I thought of this after reading the mobile thread:

Do any of you have complaints about your service since alltel was bought out by verizon? My service started getting really bad just before they announced the deal. There are huge dead spots everywhere now and myself and my customers are getting frustrated with it when we can't have a conversation. Everyone I have talked to locally that is on alltel had the same complaint. We didn't have verizon here until the week of the takeover; they spent two years building 300 towers in our area and as soon as they open up alltel's service goes downhill. When I call alltel, they say everything looks fine on their end and it must be our phones; i find it hard to believe that almost 75 people i have talked to w/ alltel have the same problem. And the data network goes down on a weekly basis too. anyhow, is this local, or have you people in other areas experienced the same problem?

I work for Alltel, and as of now Alltel and Verizon are two completely two different networks and they have not even merged. The Merge is not until 12-12-08, but they will still be completly independent networks. It will take a couple of years to integrate.

Alltel netowrk is Cellular CDMA only, and Verizon is some PCS and Cellular CDMA. Where the two networks overlap Verizon is PCS, and where they do overlap will be divested meaning Verizon will not own that portion Alltel and it will be sold to another carrier that uses Cellular CDMA which is pretty much limited to US Cellular, T-Mobile, and a hand full of Ma-Pa networks.

I have not had an issue. Alltel is pretty good around here but like other providers there are dead zones here and there.

I have Alltel. I had quite bit of trouble with reception until I got rid of my old phone. I have a Samsung phone now and I have very few problems now.

Right here.
Sure could be your phone. It seems to me that every phone I've ever owned has dropped off in call quality about the 1 year mark, with the 2 year anniversary getting downright frustrating to use. Try a new phone My experience has been that this will fix you right up.

I'm not on Alltel, by the way. I've always had AT&T because I started way back with CellularOne and that somehow turned into AT&T over the years.

I've got Alltel and no problems. Yet. They have been pretty good except for the hard sell they give you to lock you in so that Verizon overage rates wont scorch your butt when the change does come. When that does come I'm going shopping; probably to sprint unless A&T gives me a break on my advertising.
I had a similar problem years ago though. Had a bag phone. It was analog and no 911 GPS. Alltel forgot to tell me they weren't going to service it. They just dropped my calls after I got connected. Unless of course it was to them (611). Then it was crystal clear. It was irritating until a customer service agent politely diagrammed what was going on. Very diplomatic and obtuse of them all at the same time. I can be a bit thick sometimes. Then I realized exactly whose minutes I was burning up and bought a new phone. Now I got this cancer on my temple from the great new phone of which I'm paying them every month for. To bad they got blanket immunity from Congress.

i personally have two phones; one is about six months old and the other 8 months old. They have the same problems. Alltel used to have zero dead zones in my area; now there are several and they are expanding. I would try a new phone like they suggested, but its not just mine, its everyone i know on alltel.

I work for Alltel, and as of now Alltel and Verizon are two completely two different networks and they have not even merged

that part i knew; i wondered if maybe alltel was just letting itself go. ;)

i've heard good things about at&t; i think a switch is imminent.

Somebody needs to do a pole on mobile phone companies. I got my kids Net10 phones. They are great. No problems, 10 cents a minute, disposable phone. Goes well with my aluminum foil hat.
