Are there any regulations concerning illuminated e-stops? I cannot find anything in NFPA 79 concerning the lighted e-stop, and have examples in house of e-stop circuits that are both lit and unlit under normal operation.

I have never heard of any 'national' requirement for illuminated e-stop buttons. Some people like to use 'illuminated when pushed' maintained buttons, as an easy means to identify which button has been operated.

i agree with jim. i have to follow ANSI B-65.1 Printing Press Systems.
it doesn't require illuminated push buttons, but says if used, they shall be uniform throughout and distinct from other personnel warning lights.

there maybe an ANSI Std to follow depending on what you are working with.

We have examples of both in house, some are lit when safe, others unlit so when pressed the operator can determine which E-stop was pressed.

I feel it is better to make the e-stop visible, and that is how I would go, but trying to standardize first would be better.

Thanks everyone.
