I was looking at a design where the lighting designer / architect had constructed a ?light box? so to speak, with a fluorescent strip light illuminating a surface (diffused acrylic) the issue is lamp image. The strip fixture was placed too close to the diffused material and you can see the lamp image thru the material. I was looking through the IESNA lighting handbook and when it talks about translucent boxes it refers to the distance apart from fixture to fixture but does not reference the distance lamp to lens? With a one-lamp fixture this can be an issue, just looking for other experiences, and if there is a industry standard or recommendation. Thanks.

Obviously a deeper box is needed but you may be able to install under cabinet fluorescent lights in the boxing. The distance depends on the type of lens. Perhaps a more opaque lens is needed. The under cabinet lights are very close to the diffusers and you don't see the bulbs thru it.
