Wayne, I had the same problem until about 4:00 this afternoon, no matter what I tried.

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

We changed DNS locations and it took the network several hours to update the new address.

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

I lost my automatic log in. I also changed to another ISP, and can't log in with my old password and name. So now I am back to square one.

New number, and name, with a post count of one.

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

We don't care how many Bennies you register as......you'll still be Bennie to us !!!!!!!!!!

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

Bennie, if you go back and try to log in now, you should be able to get on with your old name.

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

Thanks Roger, My problem is; I forgot my password. When I click to have it emailed to me it goes to my old email address.

I will try to contact the webmaster.

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

This is what happened, this was written yesterday:

"The server was moved yesterday and the DNS is still updating. The forum will begin to work again soon. It already works for some people (where the dns is already updated)"

Except for knowing the server was relocated, I don't have a clue as to what happened. :D

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

Let me see if I can explain it in English.

DNS stands for Domain Name Service or Domain Name Server. When somebody using the Internet types a URL, such as www.mikeholt.com, that URL needs to be translated to an actual address, such as 68.225.22.180. The translation is necessary because the Internet needs numeric addresses, called IP addresses (IP stands for Internet Protocol). The translation from a URL to an IP address takes place at a DNS, a Domain Name Server. The computer making the request is told the IP address to use, and it then uses the IP address.

The whole process is like calling directory assistance to get a phone number. You call directory assistance for Mike Holt's phone number and directory assistance gives you that number. You thn call Mike Holt directly.

The delay is that it takes a while for the Domain Name Servers to get updated. The delay is because each ISP (at least the large ones) operate their own Domain Name Servers. Not all servers update at the same time, and it takes time for the changes to propogate.

Re: I'm having trouble logging in

Thanks Bob. This whole process reminds me of a car. I can drive it and I know a little bit about it but I go to the experts to have any work done on it. :D
