Impedance protected motor in C1D2 area

I need a fan to cool an enclosure located in a Class 1 Division 2 rated area. I've found a fan that is "self-certified" by the manufacturer for C1D2 use by virtue of NEC 501.8-B because the motor is "impedance protected". I do not see any reference to "impedance protected" in that section of the NEC. Since no agency (UL, CSA, FM) has tested and approved the fan, I am skeptical. Is an impedance protected motor acceptable for use in a Class 1 Division 2 area?

It is if the AHJ approves the installation. If I were the AHJ, I would ask for a field evaluation from a NRTL. :D

As long as the motor does not have arc producing contacts, no special listing is required for Class 1, Division 2 locations.
501.8(B)... In Class I, Division 2 locations, the installation of open or nonexplosionproof enclosed motors, such as squirrel-cage induction motors without brushes, switching mechanisms, or similar arc-producing devices that are not identified for use in a Class I, Division 2 location, shall be permitted.

OOOPS, so much for being so sure of your answer that you don't look it up. It is not good to shoot from the lip.
