I installed a new service entrance in this house some years ago. It was and still is my practice to bond all metallic piping systems together. At that time this drain line was either cast iron or galvanized. The 6 bare is probably in route to the incoming metal water line.I don't get it. Where did that ground wire come from, did you install it previously? Or did the plumber install the ground wire (to where?) and clamp? That gray PVC looks like our stuff or central vacuum.

Typically residential would not see gasoline in that drain nor much for methane. Not sure about any others. That is getting above my pay grade. Is the PVC for nonpolar liquids that require static grounds?

Well it looks to only be maybe 1-1/2 or 2 inch line, had it been 3 inch line I think more a valid question as it could be coming from the water closet.I hope your kidding..
