code specifies that equipment shall be in sight from , within sight from. or with in sight of,and so forth, other equipment. to me it means all the same ,as long as the lighting panels, disconnects, etc remain visable to you from the front of you all sides of you with no obstructions in between to ruin your line of sight and stay whit in the 50 ft rule.this then would eliminate the need for a permanent locking means for the 277 volt breakers which control the lighting circuits. would this meet the 2008 nec requirements ? is there any more info. which would apply to this thanks

The only place where luminaires require a disconnecting means is those mentioned in 410.130(G), and a breaker lock is not mentioned as being acceptabe method in that section, it must be within sight of each individual luminaire. A single disconnecting means for multiple luminaires is acceptable but can not leave the room in total darkness when in the open position.
