For myself that is more of a 'why not?'

Cheap insurance against shorts. There are some nice bushed MC connectors that I would feel fine without red heads but usually we get low end fittings so I go with the red heads.
Ditto. I have used some of the nices fittings but I still used the red heads. They make me feel better.

It was the way the inspector presented himself to me. he saw I had a NYC logo and he said he was from the bronx looking for the contractors rep. Then he said let me clue you in to a little secret I am anal about certain things and bushings are one of them. It took every ounce of energy to say have you ever been on Mike Holts website? He of course said no. I have never in my entire career Not put an anti short bushing in. NEVER!! It is now meaningless because they are not required I have gone to great lengths to install and now my bubble is burst. A couple of months of therapy and I will be OK. Oh btw I took a job in upstate NY for a month or so. Dr Phil INTERVENTION!!

First off: AC cable requires them ,..MC does not

I do a lot of MC work and havent made up a connector without one, and I have taught my apprentice that code says they are not required [per manufacter guidelines] but there is no reason to not put them in. Callbacks make me look bad - and I dont like looking bad. Id feel even worse if I could have prevented a callback with something that doesnt even cost a cent.

Well the supply house started selling these ,.. and I got to tell you

"these don't need no stinking red head"

I use this fitting too, and it is a struggle to get the redhead into them. A few years ago, I stopped installing the redheads altogether. No call backs either.
