Indirect lighting in the Crown moulding

I know some of you have been asked to install an outlet for rope lighting that will be laid in or under moulding to illumnate the ceiling. What do you call this lighting? What do you call the moulding that the light will lay in? Can you use regular wood crown moulding?
I want to install some at my own house.

Yes, most standard crown will work.

Yes, most standard crown will work.

But the regular crown is designed to be nailed bottom and top. So you would need to install another piece of wood to nail to, maybe in the center of the crown.

It seems they do make moulding specifically for the rope lighting . But it seems like dust would be an issue.

I usually do a remote power supply hidden above a cabinet. I don’t use rope lighting because I’ve seen it overheat and fail.
May not be a problem now because of LED’s, but I use 12 or 24 vdc LED roll strips. A large enough power supply for those is about the size of a ballast.
