"more than 7 feet"? Is your local cutoff point at 7 feet? That's pretty liberal, in my experience. With cable methods, normally they want it pretty dog-gone short, and 7 feet indoors is very generous if they let you have that much.

You can have 100 feet of seu cable in the house but it must have OCP. If you are talking about service conductors then there is no 7 foot rule. That may be a local ruling. See the article Bob stated.

SER and SEU are the same thing except that SER is round since it has one more conductor. Also USE is permitted to be used outside and underground but not permitted to enter a building, SER and SEU are not permitted to be used underground.
