I know it is required by code to run your neutral with your phase conductors to reduce inductive heating of the cables, but can someone give me a technical explanation? I work in a hospital and found this problem and would like to explane it in more detail.
Thanks
Jack

Technical ? but I'll give you the simple version ,when a single phase conductor is run through a conduit the magnetic field created by the current flow is not being canceled out by an opposing ( or counter current ) running the in opposition. So this magnetic field induces current onto the pipe, sort of the way a transformer induces current on to a secondaries winding.
