Does anyone know if metal wall plates are rated for exposed metal boxes.
I’m doing an open space with block walls and I mounted 4square boxes on the walls with metal wallplates. I did this instead of industrial covers for cost saving, especially on the 4 gang switch boxes.
but I can’t find any information online about ratings or anything against them.
My ahj is Denver County
Thoughts?

Plastic plates are prone to breaking if used like that because they are not supported, not what they are for. Other than that, you are a professional and that is something one would expect from a DIY. If you were doing the job for me I would ask why you used "sheetrock" wall plates.

I agree with Larry the sharp edges on the plate would keep me from doing this even to save a few bucks. I'm curious how you're mounting the receptacle in a 4" square box with a finished wall plate?

Are you using a mud ring with plastic cover, if so that would be DIY looking.
A flat mud ring would be slightly better.
An industrial cover is one piece instead of two and for recps, no bonding pigtail is required.

So I understand the look. All these outlets are behind wall hung TVs. But I’m really trying to find a concrete answer besides looks and workmanship. I’m not sure if the exact name but a “handy box” faceplate sits tight, flush with no corners exposed and ideally that’s what I would use as opposed to standard plastic wallplates.

I have used a "Bell Box" with a SS cover for exposed locations, could use a plastic cover, as either match the box size.
