Do indoor L5-20 and L6-30 plugs require GFCI when they are installed for a specific piece of equipment such as a pump, chiller, UPS, ETC? The code references i can find seem a bit circular

Thanks

Thank you, but I have already reviewed that text multiple times and I still haven’t found any clear direction from it. Thanks

In general, the code rules for GFCI protection are based on the location of the receptacle and not what equipment is being supplied. However there are specific equipment GFCI requirements in 422.5.
