A master electrician i'm working with told me 240v extention cords are not allowed for use basically over 15 feet in an industrial environment. Is there a code for this or is it sort of just a general trade understanding. I know manufac. make 240v cords 100ft.

Yeah the environment, outdoors and straight 240v cord. Other than protecting the cord from damage and contact I could not find anything specifically relating to the voltage of the cord in the code.

Thanks...

NFPA79 : 2007 : 13.1.6 Cord.
13.1.6.2 The use of cord shall be limited to individual exposed lengths of 15m (50 ft) or less.

Disclaimer:
NFPA79 is not specifically called out as required in any state of which I am aware.
