Im am interested in any information you can give me about obtaining my license for SC.I have had many years experience in residential and commercial approx. 15yrs.My thing is ive worked for my dad in this time and with him getting older i am wanting to 1>take over his company/work or 2>start up my own.But i believe i need my own license in both cases.also i have been told by others around me working in the same field that they recieved their license for under 200.00 in less than 2weeks is that accurate?
since i have so many years experience will it be easier to obtain one than others with no experience?
any help in pointing me in the right dierction first steps etc.
thanks Jamey (SC)

SC Licensing

SC Licensing

In South Carolina, you can only get licensed as a Journeyman or Master Electrician thru the Municpal Association of SC, not the state.

Generally, Jouryneyman is a 3 hour test and master is a 4 hour test. From there, you are a licensed electrician. Later you can apply for you contractors license if u wish to bid for jobs over $5,000. The SC contractor board waives most requirements to be met if you are already licensed thru MASC. SC contractor board does not license you to be a Journeyman or Master electrician, you would have a mechanical contractor license with electrical endorsement.

The following link will get you headed in the right direction. Details for your electrical license can be found at http://www.masc.sc/trades/trades.htm
