I didnt know where to post this....here seemed as good as place as any.....

A while back I recived a "Infraction" I understand why....so be it.

Question....

My infraction was "1 point". What does one point equivelate to??? I am assuming that X number of points equals something happening that would be detrimental to my membership status....I dont recall a explanation of this when I signed up here so......I ask now.....Heck, before I didnt know that there was a "infraction system". Can anyone give infractions, or do the mods. vote on it??? Just curious.....

Infraction points are pretty meaningless, as far as I know. When the feature first appeared we issued infractions to a test account until we were blue in the face and nothing happened.

The nice thing (for the moderators) about issuing an infraction is that it stays on the profile, as a record, in case it becomes a habit for the offending party. Easy future reference. :)

There's no vote on infractions, but since they are of minor consequence then it's not all that bad.

Never heard of it. Suppose they will "Shunk" you if you get too many?
You bring up a valid point - the reasons behind temporary and permanent bans will be more transparent to the membership if they can see that someone had a repeated problem.

In addition, it will more clearly define what is acceptable behavior and what is not, before the point of no return.

How does one find their infractions? I should have a bundle by now.
If you get an infraction, it is accompanied by a prefabricated scary looking PM, from the moderator that issued the infraction.

Using JacksonburgFarmer as an example, since he brought it up:

Dear JacksonburgFarmer,

You have received an infraction at Mike Holt's Forum.

Reason: Inappropriate Language
-------
This a reminder that profanity is not allowed on the forum. It adds nothing to your post, leave it out. This is not a jobsite.
-------

This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

The only thing I typed when this message was sent was "This a reminder that profanity is not allowed on the forum. It adds nothing to your post, leave it out. This is not a jobsite."

When I click on the Infraction button, then this is the next screen that appears:

The "Warning" checkbox changes the word "infraction" in the prefab PM to "warning". If you receive a warning, you are very close to more serious trouble, unless another moderator is like me and didn't know what that button did until he sent one and realized his mistake. :D

OK I have to know,"How many Infraction points" do I have? I

will be better in 2009 I promise.:D
I hadn't thought about it, but I didn't realize members couldn't see the infraction tab in your profile. Here's what JacksonburgFarmer's profile looks like to a moderator:

I'm putting duct tape on my offending fingers. Hdpfiaghdisgfpwieyhrftewtwqer hjhsgda saduhg.
Let me know how that works out for ya. :)

Edit to add: Before I head out for the night, allow me to say that infractions are just a tap on the shoulder. They're nothing serious, basically a note to officially let you know you officially crossed a line. Nothing more, nothing less. Nothing to worry about.

I know not what happened and I care not, but a ban of this member lessens the valuable knowledge of this forum much less the personality of the overall forum.

I'd think Marc's knowledge far out weighs any thing his humor may have done to offend the moderators.

While I don't disagree with you on that, it is my educated guess is that the reason went in a direction other than humor, my firm belief that it was not a decision made lightly, and my instinctive feeling that we should not press the issue.

Hey just stating my opinion. I consider my self a fairly knowledgable electrician, but no code expert and the code experts here have helped me a lot but there are quite a few code experts. Marc had other information that few others here seemed to have and was very helpful he is MISSED.
