I have a group of patio heaters in a single family dwelling, each rated at 240 volts/ 4000 watts. It appears using Romex that I miss using 12/2 by .83 amps using the 125% rule. Thoughts anyone?

look closely at what the nameplate says.

often things are rated at 250 Volts so you would end up with 20 Amps at 125%.
