Getting ready to install feed wires to injection press with a main breaker size of 700a 3ph 480v. Manufacturer states that press does not pull over 500a at any time of running full load. Said they would agree to installation of 600a to feed press and have no issues with it. The only reason the 700a breaker is installed in press is because of total connected load per UL. Is it aggainst code to feed press with 600a breaker and conductors size for that breaker? Basically turning the 700a breaker in machine into a lockable disconnect.

As long as the conductors are protected at 600 amps the 700 amp breaker is not important. It could be a 1000 amp breaker or no breaker at all.
