Inline Receptacle in Strand of Lights

Christmas lights with 2 spade male and female plugs but is 3 wire throughout the span.

I cut one light out to put in another ungrounded receptacle in the middle. All lights were good before splicing but now about a half dozen before the plug won't light up.

I've tested the bulbs out, all are ok. Suggestions?

Yes, buy the proper set-up or call a qualified electrician.
