Innerducts

another fiber optic cable will be pulled into the inner duct. Do you think I really need the innerduct? Is there anything in the code I could use as a reference?
THanks

Without an innerduct, when somebody wants to pull another fiber into the same conduit, they're going to curse your name to the stars and back.

Given the price of the stuff (and depending on the length), I'd consider pulling in 3-4 innerducts at once and leave spares.

There is nothing in the code that says you need an innerduct but it gets specced all the time because communication guys are whacko.

Yep. TIA/EIA and TDMM specs are much more rigid than NEC specs are when it comes to conduit.

Basically, if we can't look at a box of cable and will it through the conduit, then it is too long or has too many bends between pull points LOL.

Yes, but I think the original poster means that there is already a cable in the conduit (without any innerduct), and he is the one that has to pull in another cable.

So he will be the one cursing the original installer.

A ribbed inner duct may make the pulling easier, because it won't have as much surface area in contact with the existing cable when you pull it in. Fiber cables have a pulling tension limit, and you risk damaging both cables by pulling another cable in the same conduit that already has a cable in it.

Haha or do like I did and cut the pretermed end off to pull it in. Boy that was a long day at the office explaining why.
