Did an emergency replacement of a 100 amp meter socket the other day. Overhead feed. I re- hooked up existing #2 seu service drop cable to the socket, drove 2 new rods, and made a #6 bare gec to rods and h2o pipe. Ok so far. Here is the question. The existing point of attachment of the ser cable weatherhead is a little low, maybe 9'-6". Would you guy's require the ser cable replaced to acheive a code height compliance or is the drop ok to leave as a grandfather. I sent out the inspector today, but have not heard back from him yet. Just wondering what other inspectors would say about this.

Re: Inspector opinions requested

The point of attachment is a little low, so the height of the unprotected drip loop is a little lower! If the real purpose of the NEC is practical safeguarding of persons from the hazards involved ... , then I believe this should be raised. Unprotected conductors below 9' are a real hazard. It is easy to justify leaving them as is, but the easy thing is not usually the right thing to do. I think the inspector has the right and the responsibility to require the POA to be raised.

Here is the follow up. He didn't call me back today, so I am probably cleared to go. Fred the drip loop itself is what is actually down to 9-1/2 ft above the grade. Anyway usually I change them out.
