INSPECTOR says you can not pass through a motor terminal box to wire a LL SW.

you are talking about the motor peckerhead?

i've never seen anything other than the motor terminations in there.
Well it is unusual however is a hydraulic power pack and I had a journeyman run the 2 LL writes through the peckerhead to the LL he says the only thing that can be in there is the motor leads and power source.

well, sometimes there are leads for stuff in there besides winding leads,
brakes, thermocouples and such, but i've never seen control wires going thru there.

i wouldn't put limit switch or stop string thru there.
another piece of sealtight would be my choice.

i don't know if it's specifically prohibited by the code,
but as i'd never even considered it, it was a moot point.

I have looked through the code book but I can not findwhere it says you can not, I need some help for this one

Sometimes you don't need to look through the code book to find good advice that you've already received.

Just sayin.

Yes, but this is already done. Extra expense to alter it. Hence, if there is no code prohibiting he could save that cost.

Ok then , if you want to stand your ground, turn into the defensive guy and make the inspector show you where it says that in the code book.

This LL switch is for control, could it be Class 2?

Permissible if it's associated with the motor operation, yes? Assuming the LL wire/cable insulation is at least as good as the power cable insulation.
