So great to know that I can always come to this site when I am confirming an installation technique. I recently purchased some Leviton 55175-ASA Secondary surge arrestors for some service panels. I am used of installing breaker type whole house surge devices but am a bit confused with installing the #10 awg L1 and L2 conductors to the main breaker susch as required with this device. Is it acceptable to have these lines under the same terminal at the main breaker as the main conductor? How does everyone else install the pigtail surge devices while still affording the best protection possible?

You cannot install those two conductors within the same terminal on the main breaker unless it's listed for more than one conductor (extremely unlikely). Why not a 2 pole breaker for the TVSS connection?

It is also best to keep the leads as short as possible. It may seem weird to leave no slack, but in this case even a few extra inches reduce the effectiveness. Even more than the diameter of the wire.
And use gentle corners too, avoiding sharp bends.

Thanks. I have installed other brands in past that were off of a seperate 2 pole breaker. For some reason the information with this model does not reference such an installation and diagrams it with the service conductors under the main breaker terminals. I thought that this was an issue and will install all with a two pole CB.
