I can't seem to find the answer to this question in the NEC handbook or anywhere else online, so I'm trying here. Our firm is currently working on rehabilitating an existing sewage pump station which includes replacing the existing ventilation system. I understand that the wet well is rated as Class 1 Div 1 Group D and that all electrical equipment within the wet well must be explosion proof. It makes sense that the exhaust fan motor would have to rated for Class 1 Div 1. However, would the supply fan have to as well? Intuition tells me that it would not, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Any help would be appreciated.
