Good day guys and gals.

I have worked in a few industrial facilities in the maintenance dept and we never get anything inspected by AHJ when we make changes like adding circuits for lighting and receptacles, change control panels, adding new equipment, etc. Are these facilities not required for inspection?

That seems to be pretty common. I think there is a kind of unstated agreement not to worry all that much about such things in a lot of places. Factories are forever shifting things around. The city would end up having an inspector on site to keep up.

Some places you can actually buy permits in advance and just fill them out as you use them.

I worked maintenance for a company that has around 20-30 large facilities scattered around the city. We were classified as "self inspecting" by our ahj. We didn't have to get permits or inspections for any work we did unless it involved changes to the utility side of things. If we had to get every little thing inspected there would have to be several full time inspectors with the company since there were 40-50 facilities employees constantly making changes/repairs.

The only industrial facilities I ever worked at were waste water plants, and aside from upgrades of the plant, all work was done in house by licensed electricians with no permits. Very little is ever added tho, most times it's R&R.
