Installation per manufacturers installation instruction

I need the code reference that describes that electrical connections to rooftop HVAC equipment must be done in compliance with the equipment manufacturers installation instructions. Can anyone help with this?

110.3(B) says nothing about installation instructions. What do you say, Bob, game on?

I actually tried to apply that reasoning in a disagreement with an AHJ in my neighborhood. He acknowledged the truth in my reasoning, but added that he had nothing other than the installation instructions to use a basis for making his call. I had a hard time coming up with a reply to that. Basically, neither the engineer, nor the installer, nor the inspector will have access to a copy of the instructions that the manufacturer gave to the testing lab that ultimately led to the product receiving its listing. As a result, inspectors are going to use 110.3(B) as the basis for enforcing compliance with the installation instructions.

What are the chances of getting a change to the 2020 code, so that 110.3(B) would read, "Listed or labeled equipment shall be installed and used in accordance with any instructions included in the box in which the equipment was packaged when it was sold"? :happyno:

I'm curious to know too. Is this about an installer who didn't read the manufacturer's instructions, thus not doing a good job? Or is this about conflicting requirements of the manufacturer and the NEC?
