Some background: I’m an installing a GE Wall oven directly under an existing electric cooktop in my home. The oven is rated at 3.2 KW at 208V or 4.2 KW at 240 V. I live in Chapel Hill, NC, and we’re supplied by Duke Energy. I don’t know if I’ve got 208 or 240v, or something in between. The whip for the oven supplied by GE has 2 14 awg hot conductors, a 16 awg neutral and a 14 awg ground. I assume all wires are rated for very high temperatures and that’s why the wires are such a small gauge. Question 1: Has anyone come across such small gauge oven wires? Question 2: I’ll be connecting the oven, and the cooktop (which has 8 awg wires), to a 40 amp 6 awg circuit, all in the same JB. What would be the best connector type to use? Everything will have to fit in a 4” X 21/8” JB. Any comments y’all offer will be appreciated.
