100 Amp ATS with load center .
Is there a way to install without a Generac Generator ?
My thoughts are provide :
12 Volt DC to ATS at 194 and Ground
240 volt line to N1 N2
? # 23

I would like to feed with portable generator until i get a Standby.

Your thoughts thanks for your help.

There is a manual transfer lever that inserts into a hole on the position indicator wheel, but if it’s an unqualified person, that not an option. If the portable is 120/240, all you will need is the 12 vdc transfer signal. The 240 volts from the generator will transfer the switch.

Thanks for your insight. I am familiar with the manual transfer and I have no issues using that as needed. On the safety side for others auto transfer is the answer.

How big is the portable and how would you auto start it? I would probably not want a auto transferring to a portable gen. I'd do a toggle switch to the Generac ATS to manually transfer then it can auto transfer back when it senses utility.

You will not be able to do auto with a Generac transfer switch. As Tortuga said, you can do a single pole switch to power the relay for manual override, but with Generac, the transferswitch control is done by the generator. Most of the other brands of transferswitchs control theirselves, and using a portable generator with remote start could be used.

Like hillbilly said. 👍

Using a Generac ATS is going to be tough. Generac is backwards from most other companies, in that the generator controls the ATS, not the other way around.

Using an ATS with a portable is going to be tough anyway, even if you get one with 2-wire start. You’re honestly way better off with an MTS or even a simple 8 space panel with an interlock.

I have a 11500 watt Westinghouse. It does have a 7 Din connector for auto transfer but I agree with you . Toggle switch is a great idea thus letting the switch transfer auto back to utility. I assume I would install a Single pole switch on the G3 Transfer terminal. Thanks for your help.

Yes and I have remote start.
