Installing a hand dryer

I'm installing a hand dryer in a stainless steel recess where paper towel used to be dispensed and has a trash can below it. The back of the hand dryer is plastic. Should i ground the stainless steel that I'm mounting it to?

The dryer is properly grounded, correct? What is likely to energize the SS?

I do have a 90 MC connector going through it the stainless, but other than that nothing, and if I drill a hole in the backing plate of the dryer to install a ground it'll make a place that could energize the stainless steel.

It will be at the same potential as the HD backing plate.

I would not worry about grounding the metal recess, I would just make sure the dryer is grounded as it should be.

The 90 is grounded by the MC armor.

It does get a bit interesting as in general MC is not allowed to be used with plastic enclosures but hand dryers are not really enclosures covered by article 314.

I didn't know this. Carlon, I believe, makes a plastic box with a rear knockout.

It sounds like the OP has MC entering the back of a plastic hand dryer. I was pointing out if this was a plastic J-box it is not allowed without some other bonding.

It's MiElectrician mention of a Carlon box I don't understand. I only included your post in my other reply to keep the context.

I was unaware of 314.3. I'm glad this doesn't fall under it. I wouldn't be comfortable running Romex in that block and through the stainless steel recess. Thanks for the advice.

I ended up getting bonding bushings. It seems to work.
