Installing receptacles in the base cabinet for gas range and a Jenn air 240V grill top.

I?m thinking of using a carlon zip box for the Gas range off a general circuit in the kitchen not the appliance circuits. Can I go though the lower cabinet with this zip box and put a face plate on it and be done with it. Or would a metal box with an extender be better?

As for the Jenn Air 240 grill top. I?m thinking a 4x4 box with an extender that would also go though the lower cabinet, and put plate on for the whip on the 240V grill.
Does this sound ok?

I looked at the Carlon Zip 4x4 Range boxes; ( has sticker on the side that states range) I never used these boxes. I guess you drill though this then clamp? I don?t see how a face plate can go on this box. So metal 4x4 with an extender appears the way go on this to get though base cabinet.

This customer wants the carlon boxes, Im not sure what damage can be done to carlon box in the base cabinet. That?s if the cabinet guys screw up. I like metal for this reason
I have not done residential work for a couple of years, so I have not seen many new products for this type install.

From what I am seeing, you want to have boxes in the wall before drywall and cabinet install. (since you mentioned extenders) Why make it hard on yourself? Just stub your 2 cables out into the base cabinet location during the rough-in and install surface-mount boxes after the cabinet and cooktop are in place. This way, you are not going to end-up right where the shelf or some other obstacle is in your way. You can then choose a location that won't interfere with storage or be in possible harm's way!

Be sure to read the installation instructions on the range, if this is anything like a Wolf, or other high end range. You will need to locate the J-box in a very narrow location and it is worth the time to know where that is.

read you post this AM . I did go over to the home this moringing for A/C problems turns out is the poco and over deman on the grid. The Cabinet guys were there. yaaah! I had them put the base range cabinet against the wall and messured this grill range unit. and got a location ( low right ) under the Cabinet. I would have missed that for sure. There is large glass jar under this for grease and has a large down draft fan. Its a tight space like you said. It s also A Wolf ! they must be having a sale on these units.

thanks for the help.

Im going to talk to the AHJ and leave the conductors tied back. untill they install the sheet rock and cabinets. the ahj wanted to see the circuits made up before approval. The cabinets guys do not want to cut a 4x4 and 3.5 a 2 hole in the cabinets either.. for box extenders. I might be taking the ahj wrong on this.

Do you have to install the undercabinet light fixtures during your rough-in also and leave them dangling during the drywalling, painting and cabinet installation in order to satisfy your inspector or do you just leave tails stubbed-out? This is the same thing. If he wants to go into the base cabinet to take apart your boxes, offer to hold the flashlight for him!
