installing wires in a trench with water pipes,etc

lease help;
I read in the code I'm sorry but I can't remember
the ref. as I recall you can't install Plumbing pipes and Electrical wiring in the same trench.
Would you please tell me the reference?

On a serious note, what about if the same trench has a gas line?

Not to long ago I installed a 100 amp panel in a building behind a ladies home that she was going to use for cutting hair. We installed the feeders, water and gas line in the same trench and yes it was inspected.

By the way I didn?t drive a ground rod at the building either. The water was in plastic so it wasn?t the electrode. The gas supplied the water heater and heat so it was bonded at the furnace. The building was brick veneer, does that give you a hint as the grounding electrode?

I have done designs for which the utility companies (water, gas, phone, and electric) had their own rules for what could share a trench with their "stuff." I seem to recall that the basic restriction was not about sharing a trench, but rather was about the minimum separation distance between two types of utility lines. It is not an NEC issue, as others have already said.
